Building a home for the work: Sydney Roberts × Unitrux

Montreal artist Sydney Roberts and studio Unitrux join forces on a new portfolio website and a series of illustration projects for brands and the web.

Some collaborations start with a brief. This one started with two iced drinks, a fresh coconut and an easy conversation on a café terrace. By the time the glasses were empty, Sydney Roberts and Unitrux had a plan: a new home for Sydney's work, and a series of illustration projects to create together.

Where it started

Sydney Roberts is a Montreal artist whose paintings and sketches had been scattered across social media and folders on a laptop, with no single place where clients, editors and admirers could see them at their best. Unitrux is a studio that builds websites and brand experiences for creative people. The conversation kept coming back to one simple idea: the work deserved a proper home, and there was much more the two could make side by side.

Part one: a quiet frame for the art

sydneyrobarts.com is built on a single principle: the artwork speaks first. A calm header, a short menu and generous image grids give every painting room to breathe. Pages open quickly on a phone or a large screen, and Sydney can publish a new piece from a simple admin page in a couple of minutes.

Unitrux shaped the structure, design and build, and looked after the domain and hosting. Sydney chose the pieces, the order and the mood.

Part two: illustration projects

The website is only the opening chapter. Sydney and Unitrux are also working on illustration projects in which Sydney's painterly, story-driven style meets Unitrux's experience in branding and digital products. Finished pieces will appear here in Projects, together with early sketches and the story behind each one.
